Cleaning Convertible Tops
Cleaning your convertible tops is not a hard task at all. In fact, you can complete the cleaning job in less than 15 minutes if you know exactly how to do it. As compared to traditional roofs, convertible
tops need a little more attention and care. Below are some of the basic ways of properly cleaning or washing your convertible tops.
It is advised to clean your convertible tops at least once a month. If it's not dirty,
you can just rinse it thoroughly with plenty of water. Use convertible soap and soft scrub brush to clean
the entire top evenly. Use hose to clean away the suds when you are through. Wet it thoroughly to remove all the soil marks, stains or bird poop. Clean the rear windshield
inside and out with glass cleaner and dry the top and rear windshield with soft drying cloth. If your convertible
is a vinyl, the best tool you can use is a non-scratch microfiber towel. Do not use a paper towel or hard cloth as it can scratch the vinyl top.
You can use cleaning agents that are available in your house, but you have
to be extra cautious. Most cleaning products contain chemicals such as ammonia, bleach, detergent, alcohol and vinegar that can damage your soft tops. Detergents, bleach and harsh acids
can quickly deteriorate your convertible top canvas, whereas ammonia and alcohol can dry and cloud vinyl tops. Having said that, it is very important that you understand the
cleaning product you're buying before you apply it on your convertible tops.
